Statement
I use art as a way to express myself and focus on drawing. Something about the way lines come together on paper has always satisfied me. Lines can vary from thin to thick, sharp to faded, or even curvy or straight. The fact that drawings can look scratchy as well as clear and detailed always caught my interest. I try to incorporate both qualities in my work. sometimes I find my practice to be more experimental, while other times I am focused on getting every inch of a shape right. My drawings vary from a mixture of simple line drawings uniquely placed to drawings that are more detailed and realistic. Although, in most of my drawings I still try to incorporate my own cartoonish style alongside the detail because I like to exaggerate things but also show some realism in a piece.
I enjoy watching cartoons, anime, as well as animated films not just because of their entertainment, but to see how different cartoons could have a different style. Each artist that creates cartoons or films has a different sense of style. The old Disney cartoons, for example, have a more authentic pencil like look to them. I enjoy that style as opposed to the newer animated films. The animated films have more clarity to them but I always liked that classical pencil style. I also read a large number of comic books as a kid which to me has a combination of both the animated and pencil style of drawing. Both styles have their qualities and have both led to my interest in art its self as well as a future cartoonist based career.
The old Disney cartoons that had a scratchy or sketch like look to the characters inspired and influenced the type of art I like to look at. Because of the cartoons and animated films I watched as a kid, drawing is my favorite way to show what kind of art I enjoy making. Art to me, no mater the subject should include whatever the artist likes enjoying and should have a style unique to them.
